Hill Top school offers Rebound Therapy as part of the P.E curriculum. Rebound Therapy provides the therapeutic use of the trampoline to develop and promote motor skills, body awareness, balance, co-ordination and communication. For pupils with PMLD, Rebound Therapy provides an additional sensory experience and supports the development of movement patterns. Rebound Therapy engages individuals through its inherent vibration techniques and delivers an enriching sensory feedback. More able pupils benefit from the extra dimension to movement that Rebound Therapy offers.
Rebound Therapy is a very powerful therapeutic tool for working with individuals on the autistic spectrum. Rebound Therapy is fun, it can be an extremely effective motivator for individuals who seek movement, love energising their bodies and interacting with a surface that they are able to control and understand. Through rebound we can continue to enhance strategies that have proven successful in the management of autistic individuals including “Intensive Interaction”.
We ensure that our pupils are safe when using the trampoline, pupils are supervised with a trained staff member in rebound and trampolining. Pupils will engage in actions such as bouncing with staff, or being bounced themselves, other activities will involve using sports equipment to play games such as balls, bean bags, hoops etc.
Other pupils in the school will access the trampoline as part of the trampolining grades from Winstrada, pupils will start on level 3 and have the opportunity to work themselves up the levels by completing different move and learn new techniques in each level. For example a pupil will need to complete a Tuck jump, jumping with arm movements, half twist jump to pass onto the next section. Pupils have progressed really well throughout the levels and we have some pupils who are level 7 and 8 which required complex moves and techniques to pass.
